The No. 42 GT3 R at speed

The No. 42 car was second overall at 04:00 on Sunday, eleven seconds off the lead, on a two-stop strategy that would have held to the flag.

At 04:12 it picked up debris through Les Combes. The left-front brake duct was torn back against the disc. Brake temperature climbed 140°C over two laps before the driver reported it.

The repair

The duct is a bonded composite part with three fixings, specified to be replaceable without removing the upright. Two mechanics changed it in three minutes and eight seconds. The car lost one position and rejoined third.

It finished fourth after a late safety car compressed the field and cost the crew the tyre advantage they had been saving.

What the data says

Both cars completed the race without an unscheduled mechanical stop. Between them they covered 511 laps. Fuel consumption was within 0.4% of the pre-event model across both cars.

The duct did what it was drawn to do. It failed as a part, not as an assembly, and it came off in three minutes.

The revised duct geometry is already in test and will be offered to customer teams as a running change, at no charge, once it has completed a full endurance distance.
